Action points

1.reading minutes

The minutes are read individually and commented on.

2. Who takes the minutes

Charlene will take the minutes

3. Discuss the Annual Report

The Annual Report needs to be reviewed and completed.

The action point from last time will be carried forward to later. Sandy will review and complete the Annual Report when he comes back from Scotland.

4. Discussion on how to recommend a child

To recommend a child, a KCF member has to interview the child, the family, and the director of the child's school. The forms need to be filled out. The amount of support to each child varies with their needs. The maximum per child per year is $100.

After the forms are filled out, the child's recommendation is raised at the next meeting and support is approved or denied.

One issue that Sandy raised is that there is no 'fast track' policy at the moment. A child could have to wait 2 months to get support.

Chenda recommends that the interview be done by a Khmer person so that the answers and questions are clear and so parents understand how to support their children going to school.

We will discuss the timing of recommendations of children at the next meeting.

Hans will give Mairead, Sim, and Charlene the charter and forms to recommend a child.

We will include the model schools and the practice schools in the districts we are working in. We will ask Kim Hong about the translation of the leaflet into Khmer.

5. Report about supporting of children

Sandy said that the families are doing well. There are 8 children and we are supporting 2 of them. They go to the English classes and the bikes we provided are in good condition. The children said that they are worried about attending high school because it is very far  from their house.

Sandy will review the younger girl's situation again in August or September.

6. Review list of distributing KCF postcards to guesthouses

Hans hands out new postcards, forms for receiving post cards, instructions, and leaflets.

The postcards are $.75 (3,000 reil).

There is a contract for guesthouses to sign that they received the postcards. If they prefer to sell the cards first, and then pay, we go back after a few months to check how many they have sold and to collect the money. The minimum number of postcards per establishment is 10.

Mairead, Charlene, Chenda and Hans will distribute the postcards to places listed

Hans will ask at the post office about how much envelopes with stamps would cost to sell with the post cards.

7. Incoming finances

Hans reported that the fund will have approximately $7,000 coming in August. There is another $500 donation from Linda Parton's friend.

Currently ,we have a little over $1,000 in the fund.

Later, Sandy will look into accepting credit card donations.

8. Web site update

Sandy did the updated text of who we support. We will need to redo this in August.

Sandy will finish the update in August or while he is away in Scotland.

We will need to pay the annual fee ($30 or $40) to renew the website license.

9. Executive board changes

We are sad to see Kimhong (secretary) and Sim (treasurer) leaving.

The charter describes both positions' responsibilities.

We need to replace both the secretary and treasurer positions with new people.

Please ask around to invite people to the meeting and to join the KCF.

10.Report of activities until now

Sandy visited the children he recommended to the fund and they are attending school. They are also attending the extra English lessons in the area.

The postcards have been printed and will be distributed (see above).

Mairead and Sim visited a very poor village where the children cannot attend school. Mairead and others are raising funds in Ireland to help the kids go to school. The school director and community are very supportive. We will think of ways to link the KCF support with this additional support from separate funds for these children.

Sandy will be gone June 4 to the beginning of July.
